A Christmas in Santa Fe awakened my artistic sensibilities for the Southwest and all its nuances. This led to the study of art and archeology at the University of New Mexico where I developed a keen interest in pre-historic and historic art and artifacts. An abiding love for both is expressed through my kachina paintings.

When searching for kachina subjects I look for the deep, mellow patina that comes with age, kachinas that have known the embrace of Hopi children and hung from rafters in dark dwellings, kachinas that were lost in fields and rediscovered, emerging more beautiful and mysterious for the wear. The painting of these very diverse and individual dolls is a journey back in time for the artist, a journey where a new acquaintance slowly evolves into a cherished old friend.
